AAUW conducts groundbreaking research that draws national attention to issues of gender equity in education and the workplace; influences policy-makers as well as educators, parents, and students; and, most importantly, serves as a catalyst for action. Recent reports address topics such as the pay gap between men and women, economic security of older women, sexual harassment on college campuses, and gender equity in science and engineering education.

Crossing the Line: Sexual Harassment at School (2011)- Comprehensive research on sexual harassment in grades 7-12 reveals sobering statistics about the prevalence of sexual harassment and the negative impact it has on students’ education.

- This commonsense guide provides key facts about the gender pay gap in the United States, with explanations and resources to help you effectively advocate for pay equity.
- Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (2010)
- This in-depth report describes eight key research findings that point to environmental and social barriers that continue to block women’s participation and progress in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Where the Girls Are (2008)- A comprehensive look at girls’ educational achievement during the past 35 years, paying special attention to the relationship between girls’ and boys’ progress.

Whether through local initiatives, the national convention, or by following the latest online, AAUW provides myriad options for connecting wherever you are, whenever you want.
AAUW States and Branches implement a variety of community programming to meet our shared mission of advancing women’s equity. The Breaking through Barriers video and brochure represent the range of these programs. Below are a selection of the many events that occur year-round at the state and branch level. Members seeking program ideas that embrace our Value Promise — By joining AAUW, you belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance — now have Program in a Box, a portfolio of program activities for their branches. Emphasis is placed on mission-based programming that engages the community and provides more strategic focus for monthly branch meetings.
- ¡Adelante! Book Club
- By reading books written from the perspectives of diverse cultures, ¡Adelante! book of the month club participants broaden their own perspectives.
- Community Action Grants
- These grants provide seed money to women, AAUW branches, AAUW state organizations, and local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or nondegree research projects that promote education and equity for women and girls.
- Financial Literacy Programs
- A portfolio of grassroots programs, advocacy and research to prepare women for an economically-secure future.
- Harassment-Free Hallways
- In response to AAUW research documenting that sexual harassment pervades U.S. schools, AAUW convened a national task force of experts to develop this user-friendly resource guide to help parents, students, schools, and school districts keep schools harassment-free.
- Legal Advocacy Fund Campus Outreach
- The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund educates students and staff about sex discrimination issues; shares ways to address and prevent it; and provides action steps toward creating a more equitable campus climate.
- National Girls Collaborative Project
- There are many projects devoted to increasing the number of girls interested in STEM across the country, and the premise of the National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP) is that these programs could be more effective if they worked together.
- $tart $mart Salary Negotiation Workshops
- AAUW and the WAGE Project formed a partnership focusing their efforts on ensuring that prior to graduation women have knowledge about negotiating equitable pay.
- Voter Education Campaign
- AAUW’s more than 100,000 members and 1,300 branches and their coalition partners educate women voters on critical issues and mobilize women to vote, ensuring that women’s voices are heard.
